Claudia Luongo is an interdisciplinary visual, literary, and performing artist who has created, worked, exhibited, directed, and performed in various venues in NYC, L.A., NJ, and PA. She works with a variety of media within and across each of the artistic disciplines to interpret and give form to her creative expression. For Claudia, creative expression and creative impulses overflow and overlap with each other, much like synesthesia. Claudia believes that creative expression promotes the healthy balance of an individual’s
emotional, physical, and spiritual needs, thus leading to a more centered and happy well-being. She strongly believes that the arts are essential to the development of perceptual awareness, creative problem solving, aesthetic sensibility, and cultural sensitivity. As an
advocate and activist, she knows that the arts often give voice to the voiceless. The arts provide a safe space to present and share ideas and differing points-of-view. As an artist who teaches, Claudia has taught interdisciplinary arts, 2D & 3D visual arts, and dramatic arts to students ranging from the early elementary level through the university level; and has led workshops for adults. She instituted and taught interdisciplinary arts courses as an interdisciplinary arts teacher; and instituted and taught ceramics/3D courses as a visual arts teacher, both for the Princeton Public Schools, where she taught for many years. She currently teaches the visual arts at the Colts Neck Schools. As an artist, educator, and advocate, Claudia knows that the freedom to explore and to create is essential to the development of an individual’s character and self-esteem. The arts are bridges which facilitate appreciation of our own and other cultures, and provide for a common meeting ground of empathy and understanding. They are tools for navigating our inner and outer worlds, and are keys to unlocking the boundaries in our real and imaginary lives. Claudia’s education includes a Master of Arts in Visual Arts/Interdisciplinary Arts/Film, K-12 teaching certification, and a Master of Arts candidacy in Museum Education, both from the
University of the Arts in Philadelphia; The Barnes Foundation’s 2 Year Graduate Program, Merion, PA; undergraduate studies at the Mason Gross School of the Arts, receiving her Bachelor of Arts from Douglass College, Rutgers University, NJ; The University of Urbino, Italy; classes in acting, playwriting, film-making, voice, music, and dance at various colleges and professional studios in NYC, L.A., NJ, and PA; a Diploma in Clinical Nutrition and Holistic Health from the Academy of Natural Health Sciences in Woodbridge, NJ; and a Certificate in Meditation Mentoring and Training from the Association for Research and Enlightenment in Virginia Beach, VA. She is a member of many professional organizations and guilds, and the recipient of grants and professional recognition. She is continually taking classes and seminars in arts, education, and emotional and spiritual health, as she is a perpetual student on an ever-seeking journey to inner and outer wisdom! Claudia’s studio is located at the Art Station Studios of Hightstown, NJ
